IT is one of the world’s fastest-growing industries, and it’s no secret that top-paying IT careers well. If you’re an IT professional, you’ll be glad to hear that 2021 is set to be a good year. Not only are overall starting salaries predicted to rise by 5.3% this year, but several roles in key areas, including mobile and data, are in particularly high demand.

But which tech careers are expected to offer the biggest pay in 2021? We take a look at five of the hottest IT jobs around the world.

As the Principal Software Architect, you would be in charge of the software development teams responsible for creating the software that allows computer systems to function. In this role, you will need to identify and evaluate software product requirements and their limitations and ensure they meet the vision and demands of the client and customers.

Since practically every industry relies on computer software, this is a good area to work in. This role requires a bachelor’s degree, as well as research, communication, negotiation and business analyst skills.

As the Principal Software Architect, you can expect to command one of the highest pays in the industry. Median pay in the US is US$151,000, 1,907,600 in Bangalore, India and £65,000 in the UK.

 As a Scrum Coach, you will be in charge of teaching and coaching Scrum adoption and agile software development practices to an agile development environment or IT organizations. Scrum or Scrum variants are used by 66% of companies using Agile frameworks, so demand is high around the world.

In terms of mid-level IT roles, this is one of the highest-paid, requiring an average of 5 to 10 years experience in the industry. You will typically require Scrum certification, and/or previous demonstrable success and broad experience within an agile development environment.

In the United States, you can expect to earn an average of US$151,000 for this role, AU$118,959 in Australia, £62,500 in the UK, and C$71,477 in Canada.

As you would expect, management roles pay well, particularly in the tech industry. An IT Project Management Director is responsible for supervising and governing all corporate IT projects. You will likely be required to oversee project managers and their teams.

Responsibilities include setting and maintaining staff requirements, reviewing proposals, identifying sponsors, determining costs, timelines, and ensuring that goals and objectives are being met. You will not only need a bachelor’s degree for this role, but you will also require the right management, problem-solving, and negotiation skills to succeed.

In terms of salary, you can expect to earn roughly US$142,000 in the US and as much as AU$180,000 in Australia at an experienced level. Those in Australia are in a particularly good position with IT jobs getting paid better and better these days.

Mobile is particularly hot these days thanks to the rise in the use of smartphones and tablets. While the job title of mobile app developer didn’t even exist as little as ten years ago, it has since become one of the top IT jobs.

To get into this industry, you should have a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or computer science, knowledge of Java, Objective-C, JSON,NET and/or HTML, strong problem-solving skills, amongst other skills and experience. Apple iOS development appears to be in greatest demand, closely followed by Android application developers.

So what can you expect to earn? Starting salaries come in at US$107,500 – US$161,500 in the US, an average of C$60,600 in Canada and an average of AU$60,000 in Australia.

 In this role, you would oversee the development of large-scale web applications or websites. Designing a website is a multi-step process and requires innovating a new design, writing the code, and ensuring there are no bugs, and as the senior developer, you would be leading a team of developers.

While some web developers focus on design and some of the coding, others will be in charge of designing the web site’s front and back end. Tasks in this role include managing schedules and teams, ensuring deadlines are met, and recommending solutions to clients.

The national UK average for this role is £42,946, C$80,000 in Canada, and US$99,000 for a Senior Front-End Developer in the US.
